Why a double layer of lycra fabric? Because we have found through extensive research, as well as through many experimental designs, that a headband constructed from a single layer of elastic fabric, as most of those available today are, just is not capable of providing the consistent, long-lasting support needed to effectively inhibit adult snoring. Further, we use the "pocket" created by the two layers to hold our unique and patent-pending earpads which contain specialized magnetic and acupressure features to help reduce snoring and lower stress.
A complementary effect of wearing the SnorEnder every night was observed in several study participants over a period of 12-16 months. They reported a small but noticeable decrease in tinnitus ("ringing in the ears"). Whether this observed effect is merely temporary or possibly longer-lasting, we think that it may possibly be due to acupressure stimulation, which is a World Health Organization-accepted alternative approach to the treatment of this puzzling condition.
As you can see in the graphic below, supporting the mouth and jaw to inhibit snoring is crucial. However, if the support is insufficient, the mouth opens during sleep and you start snoring again. If the elastic support system is too tight or does not stretch enough to move with your jaw during normal sleep, tempromandibular (jaw) stress and pain can occur.
We have found that chiropractic care can be a very effective, and a relatively fast, lower-cost remedy. And the presence of chronic jaw pain caused by tempro-mandibular maladjustment does seem to contribute to some instances of loud snoring.
In some of our studies, we have observed that SnorEnder users who receive regular chiropractic care tend to snore less frequently, and seem to benefit more from wearing the SnorEnder regularly.
Because the SnorEnder is constructed from two disparate layers of lycra (each layer has different elastic properties), it automatically adjusts to the tossing and turning motions the average sleeper makes. The headband must be comfortable for nightly wear, and it needs to fit a wide range of head sizes, from petite women to the larger male athlete. The headband support system also serves as a "carrier" for the earpad system.
Unique EarPad System
The oval shape around the ears highlights a key feature of the SnorEnder its unique acupressure and magnetic therapy technologies are engineered to reduce snoring, lower stress and aid in improved well-being and health.
The earpads are inside the headband support system and they can easily be moved around the ears to make them more comfortable to wear during sleep.
Each earpad is engineered to deliver a complex mix of powerful magnetic field effects and intermittent physical pressure that is applied to a number of key acupuncture points; as the wearer changes position during the night, different acupressure points are stimulated.
In the photograph to the left, you can see the outline of the left earpad, positioned correctly. In this usage, the earpad's magnetic acupressure "hotspots" can intermittently stimulate more than 75 acupressure "points" located on and around the ear.
Magnetic Therapy
The magnetic material is positioned on a pliable substrate (the earpads) that are positioned inside the headband support system. Each earpad is designed to fit comfortably around the ear and contains more than a dozen powerful magnetic "hotspots."
In the photo below, you can see the magnetic "footprint" made by an earpad with more than a dozen individual magnetic "hotspots" placed to stimulate and intermittently trigger key acupressure points around the ears. We designed the earpads this way because we discovered that this combination of gentle and consistent physical mouth and jaw restraint, magnetic therapy, and subtle acupressure may be of benefit in helping to reduce snoring in many, but not all, adults.
Take a closer look at the photo here. It shows the magnetic "footprint" of an early prototype earpad, through the use of iron filings. The magnetic field shown here was at a measured 15 mm from the surface of the earpad, which is more than adequate to trigger or stimulate acupuncture points that lie at or just under the skin's surface. Current models have an even more refined magnetic "footprint."
Acupressure & the SnorEnder - How Does It Work?
The SnorEnder is the result of several years of research and clinical experimentation into the causes and possible treatment of chronic, non-apnea snoring. Our patent-pending technology breakthrough is in the integration of several approaches directed at reducing or even eliminating adult snoring.
The specialized earpads are designed to apply gentle pressure against a number of acupressure "points" as your head moves during sleep. These "points' are located around the ears and side of the face, extending down towards the mouth and chin. Additional "points" are stimulated through the head and mouth support bands.
